Is my child growing well?

Enter your child's height and weight and see where they sit against the World Health Organization growth standards, birth to 18 years — the same standards pediatricians use.

This is a guide, not a diagnosis. Children grow at very different rates, and a single measurement says far less than a series taken over months. A result outside the usual range is common and often perfectly normal. Nothing here replaces an examination by your pediatrician — if you are worried about your child's growth, please book an appointment.

Birth to 18 years. For a baby under one year, leave years at 0.
Lying down for babies under 2, standing after that.

What this means

BMI compares your child's weight with their height. In children it is judged against their age and sex, so the same number can be healthy at one age and high at another.

  • Healthy is a range, not one number. Children of the same age differ a lot and are still perfectly well.
  • One reading matters far less than the pattern over time. Bring your earlier readings when you come in.
  • A sudden move across curves is worth a doctor's opinion, in either direction.

Ages 0–18 years. This is a guide, not a diagnosis. Your doctor will plot your child on the hospital's own charts.

The charts our doctors plot on

These are the printed growth charts used at the hospital. They run from birth to eighteen years — further than the tool above, which stops at five. Bring your child in and the doctor will plot them on these.

Reading a chart takes practice. If anything on it worries you, that is exactly what the consultation is for.

Worried about your child's growth?

Bring your child in with their previous measurements and the doctor will look at the whole picture, not one number.
